The Free Voice; Book Review

The debate about freedom of speech in a democracy is not something new but this book reveals a dark side and issues faced by a citizen in the world’s largest democracy to voice their opinion. Ravish Kumar in his book very cleverly pointed out that the real problem in practicing our right to freedom of speech is not the constitutional constraint but the fear that was instilled among the citizen that no one dares to speak their heart out. I always loved Ravish Kumar for his sarcastic comments and more truth-less drama policy. I followed him everywhere and subscribed to his YouTube channel as well. I thought that he is the most fearless journalist and never hesitate to bring truth to the surface. He proved me right with his book as well. As aspiring journalists, we need to know the consequences we might face when we dare to speak the truth. Lies are comforting and Truth is anti-national apparently. There is a difference between being a supporter and a citizen. You cannot be a fan of a politician, because then you’ll be blinded by their speech and eventually lose the right to criticize them and let alone question them for their actions.

Ravish Kumar starts the book with Judge Loya’s case and throws light on the situation of mainstream media and the fear among judge Loya’s family that even they felt helpless and kept their mouth shut. Being a journalist is not easy and Ravish made it very clear.
